Roof Installed at Hillmount Cafe Extension

The roof has been installed!

Hugh Miskimmon & colleagues have used a small gap in the incremental weather to install the pitched roof.

James & 7 colleagues from CES have installed the ground floor screed.  This means this floor can be overlaid with our finished floor in 4 weeks.

The Electricians and Plumbers from Sheridan M&E have worked flat out to get the 1st floor ready for screed on Monday.

Derek McCullough Contractors have built all internal walls of the kitchen.

My Colleagues Steve, Gary, Wayne, Simon and Hebie have worked as fast as possible to get the floors prepared for the screed on Monday.

Cup Cake Competition

The cupcake competition at Hillmount

Cupcake Display at Hillmount

Customers were delighted to see such a beautiful collection of hand crafted cup cakes.

The competition had 2 categories over 13′s and under 13′s.  The quality and creativeness of the entrys left our Judge with a very difficult decision to make.  The Judge commented how each entry had been made with a great detail to attention.  All the entrys where better than anything she has ever seen commercially available in Cafes.

Cafe Extension Steel Work

Steel Structures have ereceted the steel work on site on schedule. However the roof Purlins are not level over the balcony section. But I am sure we can find a way to resolve the problem. We are slightly disappointed with the colour of the Galvanised balcony at the front. What do you think think of the colour of the front beam? Any tips on how to resolve this would be appreciated.

Cafe Extension update

The steel work has arrived.

Our very expensive whole in the ground now looks a bit more like it could be ready for Christmas

Hilmount would like to thank Brendan and his team from SMC Contracts Ltd for keeping the project on schedule.

The steel work has arrived on site and is being assembled faster than I can post on this web site.

Hillmount News Item- Orchid Day

Media release for Growth Technology

Get your orchid MOT-ed at
Northern Ireland garden centres

ORCHID owners are invited to two garden centres in Northern Ireland next month (September, 2011) to receive free advice and MOTs for their plants.

One of the UK’s leading suppliers of plant nutrition products and an award-winning orchid grower have teamed up to host two Orchid Days on September 3 and September 4.

Chris Channon, a Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) gold medallist, said: “I’m delighted to be representing Growth Technology at Hillmount Nursery Centre in Gilnahirk on Saturday, September 3 and Inver Garden Centre in Larne on Sunday, September 4.

“The events give orchid lovers the opportunity to find out how to best look after their plants, as well as have any queries answered.

“People are welcome to bring their own orchids along to both events. I’ll be able to give them a free orchid MOT during my orchid clinics and diagnose any problems they may have, as well as give handy ‘dos and don’ts’ on how to treat orchids when they’re not at their best.”

On Saturday, September 3 at Hillmount Garden Centre, Chris will host individual MOT clinics from 10am until 1pm, and from 4pm until 5pm. An ‘Orchid for Beginners’ talk from 1pm until 2pm, a group MOT clinic from 2pm until 3pm, and a re-potting demonstration from 3pm until 4pm.

On Sunday, September 4 at Inver Garden Centre, Chris will hold cultural advice talks and re-potting demonstrations throughout the day from 12noon until 4.30pm.

Chris has teamed up with Growth Technology to offer customers the best care and advice for the plants on the company’s new consumer website www.focus-on-plants.com.

Growth Technology’s Sales and Marketing Manager, Manos Kanellos explained: “We think it is vitally important to take proper care of orchids. Therefore, through our work with Chris, we have come up with the three top orchid care tips:

1. Water: don’t over water. More orchids are killed by over watering than anything else, so it’s important that you leave an orchid until the roots and compost are almost dry before watering again.

2. Feed: orchids benefit from a correctly balanced and quality feed, however it’s important to water between feeds. They don’t like a build up of salts in their growing medium so it’s vital to flush an orchid with water before feeding again to avoid any build up.

3. Shade: keep orchids in the shade. In the wild orchids grow under the jungle canopy and are mostly in the shade. Because of this it’s important to keep them out of direct sunlight.”
